American flag on 5x8 piece of driftwood from the beach. Lake Erie, east of Cleveland.
The stripes are made with pieces of old, rusty metal, also salvaged from the beach. Painted red and white. I don’t typically change the shape of my ‘found objects.’ As the photos show, they are slightly wrapped around the edge of the driftwood, wavy, textured, imperfect.
This is meant to be fun, whimsical, playful—I didn’t count the stars/stripes. They are not exact!! Yet the patriotism is still there.
